Sylvan Avenue students in Ms. Camenzuli’s fourth grade class buddied up with first grade students in Ms. Miller’s class to share their writing.

Ms. Camenzuli’s students have been learning about the elements of fiction writing, such as character development, setting and a story’s arc. They were recently instructed to write a story about a small moment in their lives and to convert it into a fictional story. Ms. Miller’s first graders have been learning about peer narratives. They first studied a mentor text, George McClements’ “The Night of the Veggie Monster,” and then learned how to write using ellipses, conversations, talking text and bold words. They were then instructed to write a personal narrative about something that happened to them or when they did something memorable.

After the students’ writing pieces were finished, the two classes celebrated their writing by sharing it with a buddy.
